SharePoint is one of the most popular and versatile platforms for collaboration and content management. But what are the new and exciting features that SharePoint users can expect in 2024? In this blog post, I will share with you my top 5 SharePoint features to watch out for this year. These
features will help you boost your productivity
and create engaging content.
1. Create themes for SharePoint in Brand Centre
Say goodbye to the old and clunky way of creating and updating themes with the SharePoint Online management Shell. Microsoft is bringing you a new and improved theme creation experience right in the brand center. Now you can create and update themes in SharePoint with a sleek and user-friendly interface. No more coding headaches or boring designs. This feature is currently under development and expected to roll out in June 2024. Get ready to unleash your creativity and make your SharePoint sites shine!
2. Custom fonts for SharePoint
One of the most frequent requests I've received from clients is 'How can we use our custom font in our intranet?' For too long, the answer has been 'No' (unless you want to risk breaking your site with an application customiser that doesn't play well with Microsoft updates) Thankfully, Microsoft has heard the voice of the users and started working on this highly anticipated feature, which will also enhance your Viva Connections experience. The roll-out is expected to start in March 2024.
3. Section Backgrounds
One of the exciting new features that will enhance the visual appeal of SharePoint Online pages and posts is the ability to customize the section background with your own images. This will give you more creative freedom and flexibility than the current option of choosing from a limited set of colors based on the site's theme. Microsoft will also provide settings to adjust the images for optimal readability and accessibility. This feature is expected to roll out starting from February 2024.
4. Copilot for SharePoint Exciting news that Copilot is coming to SharePoint! AI can help you create custom sites and pages with just a simple prompt. You can also interact with Copilot conversationally to fine-tune the details of your site, such as navigation and branding. Copilot is part of the 'Copilot for Microsoft 365' license type. Copilot for SharePoint is expected to be available in March 2024. Don't miss this opportunity to unleash your creativity and productivity with Copilot!
5. Pages Coauthoring
One of the most exciting advantages of switching from on-premise to Microsoft 365 was the ability to co-author documents in Teams and SharePoint. However, we still faced a challenge when it came to co-authoring SharePoint pages or news. How many times have you lost your edits because someone else saved their version over yours? Well, worry no more! A new update is coming that will enable SharePoint news and pages to be co-authored, meaning you and your colleagues can work on the same page within SharePoint at the same time without the risk of losing your changes! This is a fantastic feature that will be very helpful for sites with a lot of content and authors! The update is currently scheduled for roll-out in March 2024.
